2014-2019 Grade 3
In Grade 3 we focus on a deeper understanding of the library and how libraries work, with books sorted into categories by names, letters & numbers, and how our library in particular is arranged. We broaden the scope of books we can choose from, venturing into the general library from Easy Street. With this huge range of choices, it's important that we learn how to choose books that we will enjoy with the "Good Fit Books' (video description) model used in the classroom.
Grade 3 is also when students learn about Genres. Understanding some broad categories of literature, children can begin to identify their own reading preferences as well as to better understand the context and intention of different types of stories. Stories are chosen based on variety of genre, and seasonal or topical interest.
