Kindergarten - 2015-2016
In Kindergarten, it's all about the love of story. The focus is on enjoyment, while sneaking in literary concepts like author, illustrator, character, etc., and learning the privileges and responsibilities of borrowing books from the library. We also occasionally coordinate with the classroom letter of the week.

For the first several classes we learned about libraries and figured out what's so awesome about reading. We read the books below and watched Open a Book, Sammy the Shelfmarker, Can You Teach My Alligator Manners - Library Manners and Good & Not Good For Books.
A guest reader from the community brought Chick 'n' Pug Christmas in to read to us during Share the Gift of Story week. It was so good, Mrs. K. bought it for the library.

After Christmas we started thinking about story elements, starting with characters, several of whom we have met, and then adding on to think about setting - when and where the story is set.
