Grade 5/6 - 2015-2016Except for our first class, in which we watched Reading Gives You Superpowers, a break to introduce the YRCA program, Share the Gift of Story week and a long winter break, we've been reading The City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau. With themes of community, economics, commodities, conservation, friendship, corruption and electricity, and its vivid character descriptions, this dystopian novel is an immediately engrossing mystery that has captivated the class through the many weeks of readings.
We're really looking forward to our upcoming Skype session with the author. We have postponed it until we're finished the book. With only 15 minutes per week to read, it speaks to the quality of the novel that the students are still eager to hear the next segment each week. |
Our community reader read The Christmas Orange to us during Share the Gift of Story week.

The Gift of the Magi is a classic that everyone should read at least once in their lives. We shared it in Grade 5/6 the final class before Christmas
